On September 16th, we celebrated the remarkable centenary of our nation’s founding father, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, whose enduring legacy continues to shape our nation. This momentous occasion was marked by a series of events and exhibitions nationwide designed to honour his extraordinary achievements, and our team was deeply honoured to contribute to this meaningful commemoration. Collaborating closely with our valued clients, the People’s Association from Aljunied-Hougang, we embarked on a project of great significance: the creation of a 40-minute narrative film dedicated to paying a heartfelt tribute to Mr. Lee.

The Vivid Snaps Team
Our team consists of media professional with expertise in video production from pre to post. Consisting of videographers, video editors, director, project coordinators and graphic designer. Our portfolio is focused on corporate clients. And our works ranges from internal communication videos, brand story videos, virtual & hybrid events and corporate photography.
The Brief
In an era where countless videos and documentaries about Mr. Lee Kuan Yew saturate the Internet and grace our television screens, our task was to go beyond the conventional narratives. Rather than merely retelling his remarkable story, we needed to shed light on how Mr. Lee’s enduring legacies have profoundly shaped the lives of the residents in Aljunied-Hougang, which will in turn forge a tangible and personal connection with them. Our clients, too, expressed a desire for a departure from the standard documentary format. They sought a narrative that would captivate the audience without relying heavily on traditional talking-head interviews. The challenge was to craft a video that was not only informative but also engaging, even enjoyable, in its presentation.
Our Concept for the Commemorative Video
Our concept centered on immersing ourselves in the personal narratives and firsthand accounts of individuals profoundly impacted by Mr. Lee’s policies, vision, and leadership. Collaborating closely with our clients, we crafted a storyline that featured two primary school girls assigned to explore Mr. Lee’s legacy as part of a school project. This narrative led them on an enlightening journey through their neighborhood, where they engaged with a diverse array of individuals to gain insights into how Mr. Lee’s enduring values continue to yield tangible benefits for the residents of Aljunied-Hougang. They will then present their findings in a scrapbook.
Our aim was not only to celebrate Mr. Lee’s accomplishments but also to highlight the ongoing relevance of his principles in the lives of ordinary citizens. We wanted our audience to see themselves in the stories we presented, recognizing that the legacy of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew continues to be a part of their daily life.
The Challenge
The central challenge we grappled with was how to integrate the numerous values and initiatives initiated by Mr. Lee into our storyline effectively. Our concern was to ensure that we could incorporate essential values and messages while providing equitable coverage for all the divisions within the Aljunied-Hougang constituency. Ultimately, we arrived at a solution: assigning a distinct value to each division, which would be explored in the video. This approach would enable us to maintain a sense of novelty and prevent repetition, as each division would focus on and highlight unique values.
However, this decision raised another dilemma: how could we seamlessly transition between the various scenes? It was imperative that our main characters traversed the different divisions in a natural and cohesive manner. Our team devoted extensive brainstorming efforts to this challenge, resulting in the development of various scenarios and motivations that would organically propel our characters to navigate through the diverse divisions.
Filming & Production of the Commemorative Video
One of the significant hurdles we encountered was the extremely tight production schedule. Given that the video was slated for a public screening on September 16th, our team faced the formidable task of creating a lengthy video within a remarkably short timeframe. Navigating the logistics and securing suitable locations added to the challenges, given the necessity to move between numerous sites. Coordinating schedules with the interviewees posed yet another complex challenge, as we needed to accommodate their availability. Considering all these factors, it’s evident that this endeavor was no small feat. Fortunately, our team approached production with unwavering dedication, executing tasks swiftly and efficiently. We also maintained close communication and coordination with our clients to ensure that our schedule accommodated everyone involved.
The subsequent phase involved post-production, which was no less daunting. Editing a 40-minute video posed a considerable challenge, even for experienced video editors, as any minor adjustment could impact the entire video timeline. Hence, meticulous attention was required to avoid the need for frequent revisions. Our team put in countless late nights to guarantee the delivery of a high-quality video for our clients, serving as a fitting tribute to our founding father.

The gratification we feel upon the completion of the video is immeasurable. It’s a testament to our collective efforts and the passion that fueled our work. We take immense pride in the fact that the video has resonated with the public, evoking appreciation and recognition for Mr. Lee’s contributions. This positive reception has filled our hearts with a profound sense of accomplishment and validation.
Moreover, we are deeply thankful for the rare and extraordinary opportunity to be a part of a national celebration. Being entrusted with the responsibility to contribute to such a significant milestone in our nation’s history is an honor that we hold dear.
